EMDR Explained
When we experience a traumatic event, the thoughts, images and sensations from the event can continue to intrude in our lives, shaping what we believe about ourselves. EMDR is a science-based, research backed approach that uses eye movements to re-process these memories in a way that “puts them to rest” and allows you to move forward in a healthy manner. EMDR is an effective treatment for PTSD, anxiety, phobias, trauma and distressing memories. EMDR often provides relatively quick relief without having to re-tell and re-live the details of the incident.
What people are saying about EMDR
“This is the most bizarre therapy session I’ve ever had, bizarre in a good way! That memory bothered me for years and now I can think about it and just shrug my shoulders.”
“It took that memory from a vivid colour movie I couldn’t get out of my head and turned it into a black and white photo.”
“This memory has constantly in my mind, I could never get away from it, but when we tried EMDR, it was like a vacuum cleaner sucked it up and it’s no longer always there.”
